Additional Information: | This illustrated book was commissioned by Tate Publishing for wide circulation narrating the history of the St Ives School with an emphasis on works collected by Tate St Ives. The book is an informative guide for visitors to Tate St Ives and other Tate sites. The book encompasses the creation of Tate St Ives in the early 1990s and subsequent developments of contemporary art in the region through eighteen double-page spreads on key artists, a detailed introductory essay, and a postscript outlining what has happened to the ‘St Ives art scene’ following the 1970s., I interpreted the brief as appropriate to produce a piece of audience-facing curatorial writing which draws on published and unpublished sources to enable the revisionary interpretation of works. Reviews of the book posted online suggest the book is well pitched and accessible, for example on Amazon.co.uk: 'I saw this at the Hepworth Wakefield for a higher cost and think it's a great little companion when thinking about the Art of St Ives' ; 'A good record of the St Ives Artists work and lives. I am going on holiday to St Ives with the express interest of exploring the art scene. I picked this on the off chance that it would give me information about the artists and I am more than satisfied.’ |
