Manifesta Bid Curatorial Narrative

Button, Ginny (2009) Manifesta Bid Curatorial Narrative. Technical Report. Cornwall Council; Arts Council England.

Abstract / Summary

This 13-page narrative formed part of a feasibility research document commissioned by Cornwall Council and Arts Council England in the development of a planned bid for Manifesta (2012), Europe's itinerant contemporary art biennial. As the commissioned author I coherently narrativised findings from a series of sector-wide discussions over an eighteen month period, including, for example, a seminar in London (May 2009) and an open forum at UCF (Feb 2009). While ACE was unable to financially support the bid for 2012, the International Manifesta Foundation Board, which made a research visit to Cornwall in September 2009, praised the narrative as a model of good practice. The narrative led to the development of The Falmouth Convention delivered in May 2010 which was co-produced by myself, as UCF representative, convenor Teresa Gleadowe, and ProjectBase; this 3-day conference event was supported by an ACE GfA of £50,000. Following these successes, the document continues to inform Cornwall Council's approach to developing the creative industries.
