Abstract / Summary: | The photographic images in this series investigate the current phenomena of teenage mothers and teenage parents in the UK; England has one of the highest European rates of teenage pregnancies. The work explores the relationships between young parents and their children. These images record the vulnerability and strength of these situations where parents who feel themselves like children. The series charts the dynamics apparent between mothers, children, partners and extended families. This project explores the social phenomenon of a social group’s economic deprivation inducing the group’s growth. The social documentary photography employs close contact portraiture and environmental photography to record of human behaviour and social indicators. The exhibition at the Turner Contemporary Margate featured the work of 94 artists (including JWM Turner, Peter Blake and David Hockney) to reflect and examine the complex picture of teenage lives and the views societies worldwide express about their youth cultures. |
