Abstract / Summary
This body of work comprehensively documents the landscape and the populace within and along the rural and coastal regions of Aberystwyth, Wales. The work explores the areas’ topographies and how communities have adapted to living in such physically and economically isolation. The images record the change and diversity of communities over time to demonstrate the contrast between local, tourist and student cultures and these cultures’ variant influence on physical and sociological loci. The work draws attention to the demise of local industry and tourism and documents how this social change has been effected between economic fluxes and industrial changes. The photographic imagery combines landscape, still life and environmental portraiture to narrativise the histories of these particular coastal, rural and mountainous societies.
