Abstract / Summary

This article occurs within a series of critical writings on graphic design published in several international journals. These single-author texts each intend to support, explicate and develop the contemporary theoretical milieux of chirography, commercial graphic design and teaching as convergent in the author’s other practice and research outputs. My article was commissioned by the editor as the key text for issue 57 of this enduring and widely-disseminated international publication. To distinguish this text, the author was asked to demonstrate a meaningful correlation of his research theory and practice by designing the magazine’s jacket, which is thus another strand of the series’ narrative. In light of the fact that this designed object shares the same international scope, this object could, but is not, be esteemed a separate output.
