Abstract / Summary: | The Museum of Momentos’ is a miniature museum. It is an archive of the extended self, collected over 30 years, showcasing curios from the1950s and beyond. Drawing inspiration from ‘Abandoned Suitcases from an Insane Asylum’, gifts from my mother, a family business in architectural salvage, and Momento Mori, it explores the space between heritage and hoax, memory and meaning, nostalgia and loss. The museum’s frame is a custom-made antique mahogany box for a large microscope. Inside it are faded black and white photographs, a 1950s dolls pram and a cat’s skull. This itinerant feminist work is indexed through poetry (mostly new, some found) in ‘Stories Inspired by the Museum’. Traditional signage was created by Amy Goodwin. |
