Abstract / Summary: | Thunder, Arousing is part of a body of work that articulates the distributed form as one that can both participate in and critically transform the emerging relations of production and dissemination and experience of encounter created through distributed systems and their specific operational force: protocol. Taking the form of a magic spell that offers the potential to re-awaken the life force and to kindle dormant hope - that which was thought lost - the work explores the notion of a joint awakening, differentiated for each participant. Magic beads made of paper, herbs, flowers sounds, and 12 giclée prints annotated with paint and pencil map potential transformations resulting from the spell. Here, as in other work, the notion of 'fragile protocol' is utilised to imagine a place on the border between the non-rational and the logic of network systems. Fragile protocol is positioned as a medium in a postmedium condition of artistic practice based on performance and participation in which dissemination and production are in altered relations. |
