Abstract / Summary

I was one of eight artists selected for the prestigious Acme Fire Station Residency Award 2020-2025.

The Acme Fire Station Residency Award of the most directly supportive opportunities for artists in the United Kingdom; the five year residency allows artists more time to concentrate on the development of their work, and less time working to survive.

Open to those who have been making work for at least five years or more, it provides secure, practical work/live studio accommodation alongside a programme of support and professional development.

This unique programme equally considers artistic excellence alongside financial and practical need, and the selection panel included Anthea Hamilton, artist and current Acme work/live studio resident, and Judith Carlton, Director of Southwark Park Galleries.

“The Fire Station Residency has, since the 90s, stood against the increasing precarity of artists living and practice in working in London. I was happy to be invited to join the panel having seen so many of my friends and peers having to leave the city in order for their practice to continue.

I’m very pleased to say that we have brought together an exceptionally talented and diverse community of artists of all disciplines who we believe will use this rare opportunity of five years’ living and studio stability to make a truly significant step change in their careers and lives as a whole.” – Judith Carlton
