Allsopp, R (2009) Some Remarks on a Space of Appearance. In: 25: An Anthology for the 25th Anniversary for BIT Teatergarasjen. BIT Teatergarasjen, Bergen, Norway, pp. 19-26. ISBN 978-82-996678-4-5
Abstract / Summary
This article arose from an invitation to write for the 25th anniversary publication of Bergen International Theatre (BIT), Norway on the basis of my contribution to BIT festival OktoberDans (1997) and my association with BIT < http://en.bit-teatergarasjen.no/> in the first years after founding Performance Research journal. The article inquires in to the conditions which produces a space of appearance in Janez Jansa’s Monument G2 (2009) – the reconstruction of the radical 1972 Slovenian performance which (and in relation to Hannah Arendt’s work) was situated in questions of the breakdown of common value, and the status of the monument (and the art work) as a marker of collective values. <http://www.culture.si/en/Maska_Institute> The article was also published in translation as 'Notities bij een Verschijnings ruimte' in Etcetera, Vol. 29, No 124 (March 2011), Brussels at the invitation of the dramaturg and editor Jeroen Peeters.
