Abstract / Summary
This article explores the question of solitary performance training, or practice - how it is done and what can be particular about it. It is acknowledged that we are never alone but rather multiply connected echo chambers of our colleagues, teachers and other artists. Nonetheless, all performance practitioners spend at least part of their time training alone, involving often boring, certainly necessary, repetition of physical, imaginative or vocal working of various kinds. Solitary practice spaces; of bedroom, studio, head, body are explored and some suggestions offered, for what is particular about these lone spaces and what might happen in them.
