Abstract / Summary: | I respond to bone-like ceramic fragments in pursuit of a personal material language of purposeful ‘rough workmanship’. Positive manifestations of ceramic cavities and broken edges are manipulated. Both primitive in form and masculine in nature, the resulting glass casts are used as extensions or supporting mechanisms for the ceramic fragments. Crudely cut sheet glass, is employed to divide or reflect forms and spaces and extend the ceramic fragment by creating new anatomical landscapes. An image of the work was selected for the New Glass Review 36, published in May 2015. A total of 698 artists and companies from 44 countries sent 2,094 images of their work for consideration, with 100 images being selected for the publication. An annual survey of contemporary glass undertaken by The Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, USA. The 100 objects featured in the review were selected by an international jury of four significant curators and artistic directors in the field of glass, including the curator of Modern Glass at Corning Museum, US. Images of this work are held in the Rakow Research Library and are available to the public online. The artwork also featured in the Inland Art Festival (October 21st - 23rd, 2016). The 2016 festival is called The Future Project and functions as a platform from which to imagine alternative, possible and impossible, weird and wonderful futures. We're working with local residents, artists including Ben Rivers, Shezad Dawood & David Blandy, academics and musicians to use architecture, science, environment, social and cultural references to create a 3 day alternative future. |
