Abstract / Summary: | Detritus released their debut album Perpetual Defiance in 1990 and the follow-up If But For One in 1993. Starting out as a straight-up thrash metal outfit inspired by the Bay-Area metal scene, their material progressively moved in a more experimental direction, incorporating elements of doom and even themes inspired by jazz. ‘…The lyrics to these songs went way above and beyond the average thrash metal output – the truths and sometimes brutal observations laid out with wisdom and integrity, firmly rooted in a humble, Spirit-guided hope for humanity…’ And then, in 1994, just as the momentum was building, they went their separate ways. Cut to 2018 and an invitation to a one-off gig in Europe (just for old time’s sake), they found themselves with an offer to re-release both albums via RetroActive records in the USA and then they were writing new material. Spring 2020 and they embarked on the initial recording sessions and by Autumn that year, they had a new album. Myths is clearly still very much the same Detritus, with familiar roots. However, they have clearly matured and the material reflects an even more refined and considered view of the world around them. There are already plans to start work on album no.4… |
