Event Summary: | Spontaneous Fermentation/SET Gallery, Kensington, London /23rd June - 9th July |
Creators: | Fletcher, Hannah |
Abstract / Summary: | As humans we exert our dominance as a species through control; defining ourselves through our ability to orchestrate fellow inhabitants. Rarely taking the time to recognise the other beings at play and their complex actions that make life, death, growth and transformation possible. Spontaneous Fermentation will show a mixture of sound, sculpture, material explorations, living and photographic works. Addressing non-human collaborators and breaking down the traditional view of the artist. Microbial growth, fermentation, light waves, decomposition, sound waves, vegetal growth are all forms of potential artistic creation. Processes and actions that happen almost entirely without humans and yet we often insist on claiming their results as our own. This exhibition pays recognition and homage to our collaborative counterparts. |
