Abstract / Summary

Core Academic Training presentation and paper

This paper was presented during Falmouth University's Core Academic Training (CAT), 2018, in alignment with the theme of 'Doing it for Real'. Engaging with entrepreneurship scholarship, this paper gives a reflective discussion of teaching entrepreneurship in an active, action-based pedagogical approach within the BA(Hons) Creative Advertising course. The 3 main takeaways are: 1. it is necessary to first overcome misconceptions around the concept of entrepreneurship and its mental associations with corporate organisation and values to a more holistic and ontological way of being; 2 the ethnographic aspect of learning is especially powerful in helping students go beyond department and disciplinary boundaries; 3. assessment of the personal and critical reflective aspects of entrepreneurial learning and may require innovative or non-traditional ways of thinking about assessment.
