Abstract / Summary

Abstract: In this paper, I will explore the use of comics as a vehicle to investigate this medium and to communicate challenging subjects, with a focus upon ACES (adverse childhood experiences) intersecting with four themes -Depression, Hidden Pain, Acting Out and Neurodivergence. The project, ’Validating Voices’, was part of a larger, five- year UKRI funded research investigation titled ‘The Attune Project’. This involved participants from universities including Oxford, Kent and Falmouth collaborating with diverse groups of young people around the UK with a view to investigate how Arts interventions might aid with mental health struggles.
