Abstract / Summary

An analysis of poverty, boxing, and writing, in Steven Heighton's modern CanLit classic The Shadow Boxer. The protagonist, a working class pugilist, dreams of becoming an upper-class creative. However, this chapter shows how he is incapable of achieve his desired future until he fully exorcises himself of his working-class past.

This chapter concludes with an interview with the author.
