Abstract / Summary

The Tourism Management Institute (TMI) Zoom session introduced TMI members to a new, original, and significant 'Framework for Understanding Effective Destination Management'. One that encompasses conversations around responsible, sustainable, and regenerative destination management and reflects key developments in destination management that have impacted destination management since the early 1990s.

This presentation forms part of a larger project, which pivtos around a report produced by Semley and Lane (2026) and will be published by the TMI at the annual convention (October 2026) for its members and industry practitioners. The impact of the work will therefore extend to destination managers and practitioners from across UK and Ireland, who on this occasion came to hear about a holistic destination management framework that was developed by the authors over the past 18 months.

The session was designed to share insight about the new destination management framework, encourage the completion of a self-assessment tool, and to provide TMI members with the opportunity to ask questions and shape the final framework. A recording of the session is also available to TMI members on the professional organisations website.
