The Art of Animation Exhibition

From Scribble to Screen: Behind the Scenes of an Animation Production
The 'Art of Animation' Exhibition at the Falmouth Art Gallery brought together never-before-seen artwork from the companies that brought us The Gruffalo, Shaun the Sheep, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Mr. Bean, The Snail and the Whale, as well as original pieces from independent animators, Joanna Quinn, Osbert Parker and Luis Cook. The exhibition was accessible to all and well attended. The aim was to delight and inform its visitors about the skilled artistry that goes into the making of an animation.
Animation activites for children took place throughout the exhibition and several local schools got involved in the animation workshops that were organised by staff and students at Falmouth University.
In addition a 12 minute documentary film was created to showcase highlights from the exhibition alongside interviews with animation industry professionals, Falmouth staff and alumni.
Finally, a screening of The Art of Animation documentary was followed by a panel debate, where animation industry professionals responded to the question, 'where do ideas come from?' at a symposium at the Poly in Falmouth, attended by students and members of the public.
