Abstract / Summary: | Byzantine Silk on the Silk Roads: Journeys between East and West, Past and Present, a 60-minute lecture/ Q&A session at the beautiful Lydia and Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre, Victoria & Albert Museum, South Kensington, London. This event was co-organised between Bloomsbury Visual Arts, a branch of Bloomsbury Academic, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. I saw the invitation as a way to share my knowledge of this amazing period of design history – the Byzantine era stretched over 1,100 years – a lot to condense into 60 minutes – delivered to a packed audience. The lecture programme is open to general public attendees of the V&A - most of the attendees introduced themselves during the Q&A session as experts in their relative design/ culture/ anthropology fields. It was a most rewarding day and the impact regarded as significant. This public lecture centred on the Bloomsbury Visual Arts book - Byzantine Silk on the Silk Roads: Journeys between East and West, Past and Present. The venue was completely packed; imagery presented - visuals taken from the book as well as relevant artefacts in the V&A collection where much research was undertaken. |
