Abstract / Summary

The paper discusses the documentation of BDSM play within film from two perspectives - technical and psychological. Drawing on the specifics of filming impact play using Urtica dioica (stinging nettles) using immersive recording techniques, there is an exploration of the potential of eliciting empathetic audience responses. Incorporating an understanding of how the role-play involved in enacting such scenes within the lens of Jungian archetypes suggest possibilities of therapeutic effects through recording sensation with image and sound.
